Transfer News: Arsene Wenger responds to Malcom transfer talk

Arsene Wenger appears to be keeping his cards close to his chest over Arsenal 's pursuit of Brazilian star Malcom.

The £45million-rated Bordeaux ace is being lined up to replace Alexis Sanchez , who is wanted by Manchester City and United.

Arsenal have already held talks with the French club about signing the 20-year-old this month, amid rival interest from Tottenham and United.

However, Wenger has attempted to throw people off the scent.

"He is a good player but nothing is happening," claimed the Emirates chief. "We are not on that case at the moment."

Wenger did admit that he wanted to strengthen this month, with Sanchez set to head for the exit.
He added: "I don’t rule it out - at the back, in midfield or up front. We are in the market and we are active.

"But I don’t want to give news that I cannot confirm. Things change very quickly."

The Gunners know there would be a fierce backlash from their fans if they sold Sanchez without getting a stellar signing themselves and have drawn up a short-list.

They are still keen on Monaco's Thomas Lemar, but Liverpool are now favourites to get the France midfielder after cashing in on £142m Philippe Coutinho.

Chelsea are also interested.

The Gunners also like Argentinean giants Boca Juniors' forward Cristian Pavon, 21, and are watching developments with him closely.

The fee there is likely to be around £30m.
