Osun West by-election: Isiaka Adeleke’s brother, Ademola withdraws from APC primary, decamps to PDP

Dr Ademola Adeleke, the younger brother to the late senator Isiaka Adeleke, and one of the two aspirants screened for the All Progressive Congress (APC) primary election has withdrawn his membership from the All Progressives Congress, APC. He has consequently pitched tent with the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

DAILY POST reports that he took the decision after a meeting that was held on Tuesday evening, and hinged on the alleged move by the state government to manipulate the process.

It would be recalled that senator Mudashir Husein, a former lawmaker of 12 years in both green and red chambers, and incumbent commissioner in the state, was disqualified from the Osun West senatorial seat by a 5-man screening panel constituted by the APC, due to his failure to comply with certain electoral law and party’s guidelines.

Strangely, the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party in a swift move on Monday staged a u-turn, and declared Husein eligible to participate in the party’s primary election that has been finally fixed for Wednesday, June 13.

However, Adeleke and his supporters have frowned at the new development, describing it as a miscarriage of justice and political caricature.

A reliable source from Adeleke’s camp told DAILY POST that the decision of the NWC has raised a very strong suspicion on the transparency and credibility of the whole electoral process, adding that the group has totally lost confidence in the process.

” I can authoritatively tell you that Dr Ademola Adeleke will not participate in the Wednesday’s primary election of the APC. We have no iota of confidence in the credibility and transparency of that process, base on the way and manner Husein was illegally cleared and declared eligible for the primary, after being disqualified on many logical grounds, in conformity with the party’s guidelines and the electoral act

“It may interest you to know that contrary to some insinuations in some sections of the media that Dr Ademola Adeleke has defected to PDP, he is still contemplating of the next line of action , he has not defected to any party as I am speaking to you.

” I want to add that about three other political parties are ready to hand down their senatorial tickets to Dr Adeleke, including Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Social Democratic Party (SDP), and Labour Party(LP). We shall communicate our final decision to you before noon on Wednesday,” the source said.

Attached is a copy of his letter of withdrawal…
