Paul Scholes praises Wayne Rooney after Manchester United star equals scoring record

Paul Scholes lavished praise on Wayne Rooney following the striker's goal against Reading on Saturday - and still managed to aim a sly dig at Liverpool in the process.

The Manchester United captain equalled Sir Bobby Charlton's club record when he scored his 249th Red Devils goal against the Royals in the FA Cup third round.
Following the strike, on BT Sport , former teammate Scholes proceeded to reveal just how good a footballer the England captain has been for the Manchester club.

He said: "He's been a sensational footballer for this football club and won many trophies.
"The thing that impresses me the most is that he's been here for so long but the hunger and desire is still there.

"He's scored some amazing goals in his time; his volleys, his strikes from outside the box, little clever dinks, little clever chips, he's scored a goal from the halfway line - he's been sensational for this football club."

And with United's next Premier League fixture against bitter rivals Liverpool, Scholes couldn't resist picturing the perfect ending.

He added: "Let's hope he breaks that record... against Liverpool."
