Manchester United stars 'to pocket £50k each if they win EFL Cup, also, £100k for a top-four finish'

The Red Devils put one foot in the final at Wembley with a 2-0 victory over Hull on Tuesday evening in the first leg of the semi-final at Old Trafford

Manchester United's players will reportedly earn just £50,000 each if they win the EFL Cup - with much more priority being placed on a return to the Champions League.

The Red Devils put one foot in the final at Wembley with a 2-0 victory over Hull on Tuesday evening in the first leg of the semi-final at Old Trafford.

Goals from Juan Mata and Marouane Fellaini put Jose Mourinho's side in the driving seat but, according to The Sun, the sums on offer are much greater for a top-four finish.

United's 10-year, £750million kit deal with Adidas would be reduced if the club misses out on being at Europe's top table for a second successive season.

And United's players are apparently incentivised to ensure they attain a top-four finish with a £100,000 bonus.

If Mourinho's men go on a run and haul down Chelsea in the title race, they will 'pocket £200,000 each' for winning the Premier League.

The Special One won the EFL Cup three times across two stints with Chelsea, and he wants it to be his first major honour at the Theatre of Dreams.

He said: “This is a competition, it’s not a question of having affection for it.

“I won it twice in Cardiff but when it moved to Wembley I think it means even more, so why not try? For me, Wembley is Wembley - I want to go there as many times as I can.

“I was never good at choosing competitions and with some of my clubs you arrive in April and have a busy fixture list. But you are in any competition to try to win.”
